Printed Matter’s 2026 New York Art Book Fair opens at MoMA PS1 on September 24 and runs through September 27. The four-day program brings together independent publishers, artists, antiquarian booksellers and zine collectives, with talks, performances, installations and book launches alongside the tables.
Who gets a table changes the room.
This year’s Shannon Michael Cane Award supports four emerging first-time exhibitors: 19Editions from France, Bebe Books from Belgium, Kayfa ta from Jordan and Egypt, and merath from Libya. Each receives a complimentary table and an unrestricted stipend. Printed Matter’s Volume Grant also gives a table and stipend to Cairo Art Book Fair, com,,,as, Khari Johnson-Ricks and Shrub. These are awarded places, not current open calls for applicants.
The Reading Room adds a Pan-African Library curated by Pascale Obolo from the African Art Book Fair’s ten-year archive. Elsewhere, The Classroom hosts conversations on artists’ book publishing and The Stage brings music, poetry and performance into the courtyard. The breadth of this program offers more ways to encounter a publisher’s practice than a single sale.
Opening night is Thursday, September 24, from 7 to 10 PM. MoMA PS1 says advance registration is strongly suggested because the fair frequently reaches capacity. Check Printed Matter’s program and the venue’s visitor details before traveling.
