OKAY KENEDI is an artist based in Atlanta, Georgia. In STURDY’s first SELF-SHOT, she records herself between everyday life and the studio and answers four questions about the work in front of her.
She talks about what a new project feels like before anyone else gets to hear it, growing up in a home where secular music was not allowed, the parts of her life already finding their way into the music and what she hopes will change—and stay the same—if everything she is building toward happens.
The film combines Kenedi’s direct-to-camera answers with studio footage. Other people visible in the studio are collaborators captured while the work was happening; they are not interviewed or individually identified.
